My Amazing Story is built on the view that talking about our struggles in life and how we overcome them is healthy and helpful to storytellers and readers alike. However, we understand that with this comes risk. This privacy policy is focused on reducing risk (particularly when it comes to empowering individuals to annonymise their stories where appropriate).

We acknowledge that this work is innovative and therefore we may not foresee every possible consequence of enabling communities to share stories online, but we commit to responsibly and thoughtfully dealing with all story data collected and seeking support and advice from specialists where appropriate and necessary.

The responsibility for sharing a personal story online always lies with the storyteller, as do any foreseen or unforeseen consequences. However, My Amazing Story is intended to be a positive and helpful community hub for all and we therefore we commit to a moderation process in an attempt to manage and reduce any risks of harm associated with sharing a story.

We do take full responsibility for managing data such as names, addresses, email etc. in accordance with UK Law and details of this are outlined below.

Personal Information

We will use the personal information you provide for our legitimate social enterprise interests I.e. in order to have a positive impact in our community. Your information will also be used to enhance the enhance the experience of our volunteers and increase our understanding of the different challenges people are facing. We may contact you about relevant volunteering opportunities, news and events.

Touch Network CIC commits to:

  • Respect your personal data and store it securely
  • Never sell your personal data
  • Remove your data if you ask us to (this includes your story if you add it to or site)
  • Use your data to maintain contact with you, as appropriate, but will stop this if requested by email/letter
  • Send you content if we think it may be relevant or interesting to you but you can unsubscribe or change your contact preferences at anytime
  • Using your data to contact you if you request information and/or use your data so that you can use our services

The purpose of our privacy policy is to be transparent about how we collect and use your data. It is also a way of letting you know we are meeting General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Collecting personal information

Personal information means any information about an individual from which that person can be identified. Personal information does not include data where the identity has been removed. (At My Amazing Story, you are given the option to tell your story with identifying data removed e.g. in an anonymous way. It is individuals responsibility to make this choice from the outset and we commit to removing any stories from our site if asked to by email or letter.

We collect data for the purpose below:

  • Names, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses: to chat about volunteering and to keep you up to date; to record your location so we can further understand where our users are based
  • IP Addresses: We may collect IP addresses if you email us, this data is unlikely to identify you personally if emailing from the UK.
  • Your Story: We collect your amazing story and publish on our site after your submission and moderation (to ensure it is in line with the approach of Touch Network CIC). If requested by you via email or letter, we will delete this information from the public website. We will also delete where possible records of this story that are within our organsation and communicate with you the deletions we have made. It may be that your story is used in marketing material, with your permission, we may not be able to delete this as such, but after receiving a letter/email from you, we commit to not using your story in marketing material from that date onwards.

Your personal information is collected through submission of your story. We will only use your personal information for the purposes for which you offered it to us, unless we reasonably consider that we need to use it for another reason, and that reason is compatible with the original purpose. If we need to use your data for an unrelated purpose, we will notify you and we will explain the legal basis which allows us to do so.

Please note that we may process your personal information without your knowledge or consent, in compliance with the above rules, where this is required or permitted by law.

Publishing your personal story on our site is your choice. You should carefully consider whether you wish to consent to this and whether it is better for you to consent to this an an annonymous storyteller or not. We reserve the right not to publish your story for any reason we deem fit, in particular, if we believe it may cause you or others any harm.

Access to your personal details

Your personal details and corresponding story may be shared internally across our organisation and with those who act as advisors to our organisation. These advisors are required to respect the security of your data and treat it in accordance with the law. We will only allow them to process your personal data for specified purposes and in accordance with our instructions.

Access to your Amazing Story

Once you have submitted your story and it has been subject to moderation, your story will be made public on the site www.myamazingstory.co.uk. Anyone with access to the internet will be able to view and read the story. They will not be able to publicly comment. They are able to send us an email comment on the story. Once moderated, this comment may be forwarded to you, if our assessment deems the comment positive. Readers will have the opportunity to ‘like’ your story, but not to ‘dislike’ it.

It is your choice whether you publish your story anonymously or not, and Touch Network CIC takes no responsibility for any expected or unexpected consequences of the choice that you make. We do commit however, to removing the story at your request by email or letter, and/or to anonymising it at your request by email or letter as soon as we can.

Securing your data

Wer consider seriously the security of your data.  We have internal policies and controls in place to reduce the risk of your your data being lost, accidentally destroyed, misused or disclosed, or subject to unauthorised access.  Where necessary, we implement appropriate network access controls, user permissions and encryption to protect data.

Where we engage third parties or advisors to store or process personal data on our behalf, they are under a duty of confidentiality and are obliged to implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to ensure the security of data.

Data Retention

We will only retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for, including the purposes of satisfying any legal, accounting or reporting requirements.

If you have provided your consent to the collection, processing and transfer of your personal information for a specific purpose, you can withdraw your consent at any time. Accessing your data

It is free to access the personal information held by our organisation, although if we deem the request to be unfounded or excessive we reserve the right to charge a reasonable fee or choose not to comply with the request.
